March 25, 1833, letter from Clark to Brig. Gen. Henry Atkinson, founder and commander of the Jefferson Barracks, introducing Mr. Braunsberg (Prince of Wied-Neuwied), who was touring the country as an "untitled foreigner" and who "wished to learn something of the habits & customs of the Indians, & particular to see those now with you." The prince was beginning his two-year natural science expedition to the trans-Mississippi region of North America.
